Murray designs the camp and educational experiences for Steam Society, which is an incredible feat considering the amount of knowledge it requires to design cross-platform integration. When he isn’t working he likes to spend his time learning new coding languages, relaxing with indie games, or experimenting in Minecraft. He feels that video games, and nerd culture in general, can be harnessed as a force for good and solve problems that conventional methods cannot – thus his continued quest for better problem-based learning methodologies. Murray easily gets lost in new technologies and can talk your ear off about 3D printing, augmented reality, biological sciences, ornithology, and the singularity (you need to look this up if you don’t know the concept). All of his interests come from his excitement about what the future holds and how much must be done in the present to prepare us to get there. Murray grew up in Baltimore, MD where he taught experiential learning aboard a sailboat. He later moved to New Orleans and spent time building after school programs for schools and working on the BP oil spill cleanup. After a chance connection in Chattanooga dropped his name as a genius that needed to be recruited to Tennessee, he was recruited to work with TechTown as the Chief Learning Officer. Now, with STEAM Society, he is the Master and Gatekeeper of all things content. We are appreciative of the wealth of knowledge he brings along with a penchant for walking everywhere.
