THE INVISIBLE COLLEGE
WHAT IS THE INVISIBLE COLLEGE?
The Invisible College has been designed to navigate a cohort of students through a year-long experiential investigation into the world of STEAM. Looking at specific disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, The Invisible College will give students an opportunity to engage, explore, and test the limits of their knowledge as they prepare for careers and college paths of study. As a collaborative group, they will learn about topics such as coding, leadership, electrical engineering, physics/chemical reactions, art conception and execution, online entrepreneurship, and robotics/engineerings. Each student will also be challenged with self-exploration and research through required monthly creative writings.
WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS?
Exceptional students seek knowledge, and that is purpose of this program. The concept for the Invisible College came from the organization in the 1660’s that was the foundation for the Royal Society. The Invisible College refers to a community of scientists. It can be the gathering of philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, etc in a loose-knit but intercommunicating scientific research group operating within a specific discipline or paradigm. The founders of the original Invisible College included such giants of science as Robert Hooke, Isaac Newton, Robert Boyle, and Christopher Wren. Their motto, ‘Nullius in Verba’ in Latin is “on the word of no one”. This concept was, at that time, a challenge to the status quo, but in our case, it is a challenge to students to seek new horizons, to wander farther in their own imagination, and seek the keys that will make them successful through experimental investigations.
WHY DOES IT MATTER TO STUDENTS?
Imagine if you had the opportunity to explore STEAM when you were younger! Would you have developed a plan earlier in life? Would you have had more passion going into college, if you knew exactly what career path you needed to take? Throughout the year, we will be outlining real career scenarios and make recommendations of college stud4 paths to reach desired outcomes and careers!
